Malaysian Food Companies Explore Investment Opportunities in Qatari Market

Doha, March 04 (QNA) - Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a meeting on Monday with a Malaysian trade delegation specialized in the food sector, which seeks to explore investment opportunities in the Qatari market. The two sides discussed prospects for joint cooperation and reviewed partnership opportunities in the areas of food and agriculture. Qatar Chamber First Vice-Chairman Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Towar Al Kuwari said that the relations developed between the private sector in Qatar and Malaysia were reflected in the volume of trade exchange between the two countries which doubled in the last 10 years, wherein 2017 it was about USD 898 million, compared to about USD 320 million in 2007. Bin Towar added in his speech at the meeting that the economic and trade relations between the private sector in the two countries witnessed a remarkable growth in the recent period, supported by the signing of a number of cooperation agreements between the two countries. He pointed to efforts exerted by both sides to increase cooperation and overcome any challenges facing the establishment of long-term economic cooperation relations between Qatar and Malaysia. He pointed out that the two sides have mutual investments in a number of sectors, the most important of which are infrastructure, engineering, contracting, decorations, technology, and others, adding that 40 Malaysian companies operating in the Qatari market. Qatar Chamber First Vice-Chairman affirmed the Chamber's readiness to help Malaysian investors wishing to enter the Qatari market and work towards bringing business owners closer together. Deputy Head of the Malaysian Diplomatic Mission in Qatar, Mohamad Shahir Sabarudin, said that the Malaysian delegation, which includes a number of companies specialized in the food sector, is seeking to identify the investment opportunities available in Qatar as Doha prepares to host the 2022 World Cup, stressing the desire of Malaysian companies to enter into partnerships and mutual deals with their counterparts in Qatar to serve the economy of the two friendly countries. He pointed out that the food and related services sector is one of the important sectors in Malaysia, which opens the door for cooperation between the two sides. He pointed out that mutual visits represent an important opportunity to enhance trade exchange and contribute to exploring investment opportunities available and explain the business environment in both countries.
