Malaysian Furniture Exporters Achieve Sales Of US$9.61 Mln At China Expo

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysian furniture exporters achieved sales of RM40.41 million (US$1 = RM4.21) at the 23rd China International Furniture Expo, in Shanghai, China from Sept 12-15. In a statement today, the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) said the total amount had yet again proved, that the Expo was a major export avenue for local furniture manufacturers.  MTC Chief Executive Officer Dr Abdul Rahim Nik said this was the third consecutive year that Malaysian furniture companies, which participated under the MTC Malaysia Pavilion, had reported an increase in sales.  “The Malaysia Pavilion in 2015 recorded sales of RM36.05 million and last year, the manufacturers raked in RM40.03 million. “The good sales performance by Malaysian exhibitors could be due in part to growth in key markets such as China, the United States, Russia and countries in the European Union as well as Latin America,” he added. He said Malaysia’s furniture exports, including wooden and non-wooden furniture ranked eighth amongst 70 exporting countries.  “Last year, Malaysia’s total export of wooden furniture increased by 3.8 per cent to RM7.56 billion from RM7.28 billion in 2015. “As of June 2017, Malaysia’s wooden furniture export increased by 7.5 per cent to RM3.87 billion as compared to the corresponding period of last year,” he added.    Abdul Rahim said with such encouraging figures, Furniture China is set to remain a favourite hunting ground for Malaysian furniture manufacturers, going forward. -- BERNAMA
