Malaysian Ringgit Closes Lower Against US Dollar

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian ringgit extended Monday's losses to close weaker against the US dollar Tuesday on continued selling as more investors turned towards safe haven currencies, a dealer said. At 6 pm, the local note ended at 3.9135/9165 against the greenback from 3.8980/9010 on Monday. The dealer said the US dollar retreated slightly on minor technical correction after big gains on Monday. However, he said, the green back remained steady as investors turned from the riskier assets towards safe havens, partly driven by positive US jobs data released last week. The ringgit closed mixed against a basket of major currencies. It eased against the Singapore dollar to 2.9632/9657 from Monday’s 2.9600/9634 and depreciated versus the yen to 3.5897/5934 from 3.5469/5502 previously. It strengthened against the euro to 4.8535/8580 from 4.8565/8618 on Monday and appreciated against the British pound to 5.4762/4808 from 5.5020/5070 previously. – BERNAMA
