Malaysian Ringgit Ends Higher Against US Dollar

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian ringgit closed extended gains to end higher against the US dollar on Thursday as more investors shifted towards the emerging currencies, a dealer said. At 6 pm, the ringgit was quoted at 4.1060/1110 against the greenback from 4.1350/1430 on Wednesday. He said that investors were relieved over the outcome of the US Federal Reserve meeting on Wednesday as it met the expectation of leaving the interest rates unchanged. He said the decision, however, may suggest that the Fed is looking to raise the borrowing cost by year-end. Meanwhile, the ringgit was traded mixed against a basket of major currencies. The ringgit weakened against the euro to 4.6114/6187 from 4.6085/6190 yesterday and rose against the Singapore dollar to 3.0303/0362 from 3.0389/0459 on Wednesday. It strengthened against the British pound to 5.3665/3735 from 5.3743/3871 on Wednesday and declined against the yen to 4.0750/0816 from 4.0711/0810 previously. --BERNAMA
