Malaysian Ringgit Opens Unchanged Against US Dollar

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian ringgit opened unchanged against the US dollar on lack of market sentiment ahead of the US Federal Reserve's (Fed) announcement of its interest rate. At 9 am, the local unit was traded at 4.4470/4520 against the US dollar from Monday's close of 4.4470/4500. A dealer said traders stayed on the sidelines pending the announcement from the Fed's Chair Janet Yellen. "She is expected to provide some clues on the lending rate, whether it is going up or down and this will likely affect our local note," the dealer said. Against a basket of major currencies, the ringgit was traded mostly lower, except with euro, which it rose to 4.7134/7191 from 4.7298/7339 on Monday. The ringgit fell against the Singapore dollar to 3.1279/1319 from 3.1273/1305 Monday and vis-a-vis the Japanese yen it declined to 3.9146/9207 from 3.9057/9111 on Monday. It eased against the British pound to 5.5676/5770 from 5.5628/5674 on Monday. --BERNAMA
