Malaysian Shares Remain Higher At Mid-Morning

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- Shares on Bursa Malaysia remained higher at mid-morning on the back of persistent buying momentum in selected heavyweights, especially in trade and services-related counters. At 11.07 am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,664.27, up 11.72 points, against last Friday's close of 1,652.55. The index opened 5.81 points better at 1,658.36. Gainers led losers 331 to 261 while 317 counters were unchanged, 751 untraded and 18 others were suspended. Turnover stood at 558.02 million shares worth RM435.87 million. Heavyweights, TNB added two sen to RM14.32, Public Bank gained eight sen to RM19.90, Maybank rose nine sen to RM7.59 and Petronas Chemicals increased six sen to RM6.71. Among actives, Perisan Petroleum Teknologi slipped three sen to 9.5 sen, Borneo Oil lost half-a-sen to 18 sen while AirAsia X added half-a-sen to 39.5 sen. Among top gainers, BAT and Nestle each jumped 62 sen to RM49.76 and RM79.48, respectively, Lay Hong increased 44 sen to to RM10.98 and Far East added 27 sen to RM7.90. Of top losers, F&N declined 78 sen to RM23.28, Genting Plantations eased 32 sen to RM10.68 and Teck Guan Perdana fell 14 sen to RM1.80. The FBM Emas Index surged 73.47 points to 11,761.05, the FBMT100 Index increased 74.61 points to 11,461.70 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index was 67.44 points higher at 12,415.62. The FBM 70 leaped 67.76 points to 13,789.89 but the FBM Ace shed 31.33 points to 5,188.58. On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index jumped 104.65 points to 14,262.94, the Industrial Index added 12.84 points to 3,122.86 while the Plantation Index gained 36.07 points to 7,956.17. -- BERNAMA
