Malaysians Confident In Job Market Despite Weak Economic Outlook: Study

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysians remain confident in the job market despite the weak economic outlook and growing fears of job loss, according to the quantitatvie study, Randstad Workmonitor 2015. The study was conducted by Randstad, a recruitment and human resources services provider, via online questionnaires among a population aged 18-65 and working a minimum of 24 hours a week in a paid job. In a statement, Randstad said a number of Malaysian professionals have expressed confidence in the external job market, with 74 per cent of employees surveyed expecting to find a comparable job within six months. "This positive outlook for the Malaysia job market was reflected in the percentage of employees who have changed jobs within the past six months. "In the second half of 2015, 43 per cent of Malaysian employees moved jobs compared to Hong Kong (35 per cent) and Singapore (26 per cent)," said Randstad Malaysia Country Manager Ryan Carrol. He said the study showed the highest job change percentage in the transportation (67 per cent) and food product manufacturing (63 per cent) industries. Job satisfaction has also increased by four per cent year-over-year, with 75 per cent of employees expressing job satisfaction. The chemical manufacturing industry came out tops, with 88 per cent of employees expressing high levels of job satisfaction. "Malaysia has been stepping up its research and development and manufacturing capabilities in the life sciences industry in an effort to grow itself as a hub for the Asia-Pacific region. "Employers' efforts in attracting and retaining the best talent in the industry may be attributed to the high levels of satisfaction," said Carrol. -- BERNAMA
