Malaysia's Distributive Trade Sales Up 7.2 Per Cent In June

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's distributive trade sales grew by 7.2 per cent to US$22.24 billion (RM89.2 billion, US$1 = RM4.01) in June 2016, as compared to the corresponding period last year, said the Department of Statistics. In its monthly statistics report released Thursday, the Department said the higher value was propelled by the retail trade sub-sector which expanded by 10.2 per cent during the month. This was followed by the wholesale trade sub-sector which rose 6.3 per cent and the motor vehicles sub-sector (2.7 per cent), it said. On a monthly basis, the sales value of the distributive sales sector improved by 1.8 per cent. Meanwhile, in the second quarter, distributive trade sales appreciated by 5.4 per cent to RM261.3 billion against the same period in 2015. Retail trade sales expanded by 8.7 per cent to RM98.5 billion while the wholesale trade sub-sector rose 4.9 per cent to RM127.9 billion, but the motor vehicles sub-sector trimmed 1.8 per cent to RM34.9 billion. --BERNAMA
