Malaysia's HDC Bags Halal Industry Development Award At GIFA 2016
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- The Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) bagged the "Halal Industry Development Award" at the Global Islamic Finance Awards Gala (GIFA) 2016, for its work in developing Malaysia's Halal industry.
Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Jamil Bidin said the award, received on Sept 29 this year at the GIFA held in Jakarta, Indonesia was international recognition of the HDC.
"Realising the vast potential of the Halal industry, our efforts in developing this industry started in 2006, the year HDC was established.
"We had embarked on the Halal Industry Development Master Plan (HIMP) 2008-2020, aimed at driving halal as a new source of economic growth, in line with the government's efforts to diversify our economic activities," he said in a statement today.
He said Malaysia and HDC will not rest on their laurels and will continue to be committed towards developing the Halal sector and intensifying high valued-added activities within the industry.
The country spotted the potential of the Halal economy very early on, and over the decades has nurtured a Halal eco-system that has placed Malaysia in the forefront of this burgeoning industry, he said.
He added Malaysia is committed in the pursuit of the Halal Agenda and this is reflected in the formation of the National Halal Council, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
