Malaysia's HDC Inks MoU With African Institute of Islamic Finance To Support ECOWAS Halal Ecosystem
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- The Halal Development Corp Bhd (HDC) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the African Institute of Islamic Finance (AIIF) to support the establishment of a halal ecosystem in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
In a statement Wednesday, HDC, which is a Malaysian federal government agency mandated as the custodian of Malaysia's halal economy, said the collaboration was made in conjunction with the Halal Cluster Week at Expo 2020 Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
"This covers six areas, namely consultation and advisory services, knowledge sharing, promotion and awareness, networking and potential business, joint research publications, and talent development," said HDC.
AIIF is a preferred strategic partner due to its strong support by the Senegal government and it has the strength and capability to lead the halal agenda in Senegal and the ECOWAS region, which is made up of 15 member countries located in the Western African region, it said.
HDC also said the halal industry growth trends are now a key economic driver for many countries, with the global halal industry market size projected to be at US$5.0 trillion (US$1 = RM4.17) by 2030.
