Malaysia's Industrial Production Index Up 5.3 Per Cent In June 2016
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew 5.3 per cent in June 2016 from a year ago driven by the manufacturing, mining and electricity sectors.
In a statement, the Department of Statistics said the manufacturing sector continued to expand at 4.7 per cent in June 2016 after registering a growth of 3.7 per cent in May 2016.
"The growth in June 2016 was supported by three major subsectors; electrical and electronics products (9.1 per cent), petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products (5.0 per cent) and, wood products, furniture, paper products and printing (10.1 per cent).
The mining sector output grew substantially by 6.3 per cent in June 2016 after recording a decrease of 1.1 per cent in May 2016.
The higher growth in the mining sector was contributed by an increase in the Crude Oil index (8.8 per cent) and Natural Gas index (3.5 per cent).
The electricity sector output grew 8.7 per cent compared with a 9.6 per cent growth recorded in May 2016.
