Malaysia's Manufacturing Sector Records US$13.89 Billion Sales In June, Up 2.9 Per Cent

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's manufacturing sector has secured total sales of US$13.89 billion (RM55.8 billion, US$1 = RM4.01) in June 2016, up 2.9 per cent, from RM54.3 billion registered in the same month last year, said the Department of Statistics. In its monthly statistics report released Thursday, the department said total employees engaged in the sector decreased 0.1 per cent to 1.022 million persons in June from 1.024 persons recorded a year ago. "Salaries and wages paid in June increased 5.0 per cent or RM152.6 million to RM3,181.6 million" it added. The department added that productivity in the sector rose three per cent to RM54,585 against the same month last year. --BERNAMA
