Malaysia's Sarawak State Keen On Economic Ties With China's Fujian Province
KUCHING (Sarawak), Nov 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's Sarawak state is keen to establish economic ties with China’s Fujian Province as part of the state’s efforts to develop a modern economy, says Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg.
“An enhanced economic relationship between Fujian and Sarawak would also pave the way for more people-to-people ties that should help the tourism industry in both regions,” he said during a courtesy call on the Provincial Governor of the Southeast China province, who was represented by Executive Vice-Governor Zhang Zhinan in Fuzhou Tuesday.
Abang Johari led a state delegation on a three-day working visit to Fujian which ended Tuesday.
The chief minister said the state was exploring ways to bring digitalisation to its schools, in particular for pre-schools and a discussion was held yesterday with Fuzhou-based NetDragon Websoft Holdings Ltd, a world leader in interactive classroom learning, to explore ways to introduce technology-based learning in Sarawak.
In a statement Tuesday, the Chief Minister’s Office said Abang Johari told his Chinese counterpart that Sarawak was investing RM1 billion to upgrade its IT infrastructure to enable effective digitalisation of its economy and education system.
During the courtesy call, Abang Johari extended an invitation to the provincial governor to visit Sarawak to cement cultural and economic ties between Fujian and Sarawak.
Later, both heads of government witnessed the signing of a collaborative agreement between Sarawak-based Aspire Link Sdn Bhd and NetDragon Websoft.
