MDEC Urges UK Firms To Tap Into Malaysia's ICT Ecosystem

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- United Kingdom's (UK) technology companies are encouraged to tap into Malaysia's information and communications technology (ICT) ecosystem during their three-day trade mission here beginning Tuesday. The trade mission, comprising representatives from leading technology companies and potential investors, should also look at Malaysia as the gateway to other emerging markets in the ASEAN region, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) said in a statement. It said the visit by the delegation of business leaders and companies to Malaysia was part of the UK Technology Trade Mission 2016 organised by the UK Department for International Trade (DIT) together with MDEC. "Malaysia is the UK's second largest trading partner in the ASEAN region with bilateral trade reaching £4.4 billion (US$5.48 billion) in 2015," it said. Aimed at driving opportunities to grow businesses in both Malaysia and the UK, the trade mission provides Malaysian MSC companies the opportunity to hear, meet and collaborate with some of the most successful and fastest growing technology companies from the UK. In addition to presentations on solutions, MDEC said the mission also allowed both the UK and Malaysian companies to either meet one-on-one or participate in panel discussions. The mission was built on the recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in June 2016 between MDEC and the UK DIT which will see both countries jointly promote the adoption of digital economy solutions, particularly in the areas such as Internet of Things, Cloud, Big Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, e-Commerce and financial technology. Collaboration and partnership opportunities in the areas of artificial intelligence would also be explored through the academia and industry platforms, MDEC said. -- BERNAMA
