Minister of State for Energy Affairs Discusses Cooperation with US Counterpart
Washington, February 06 (QNA) - HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Petroleum Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, held talks in Washington D.C. with HE US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry.
The talks centered on cooperation between the State of Qatar and the US in the field of energy and particularly in the LNG industry.
HE Eng. Al Kaabi and Secretary Perry also discussed Qatar Petroleum's final investment decision for developing the Golden Pass LNG export project in Sabine Pass, Texas.
The meeting came as Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil signed the investment agreement, paving the way for the construction of the Golden Pass LNG export facility, which will have a production capacity of about 16 million tons of LNG per year.
HE Eng. Al Kaabi held similar talks with US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Affairs Frank Fannon on various aspects of energy cooperation.
Qatar Petroleum and Exxon Mobil on Tuesday announced a final decision to finance a project to export liquefied natural gas from the Texas Gulf Coast, owned by Golden Pass, a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum (70 percent) and Exxon Mobil (30 percent).
The announcement of the $10 billion-plus project was made during a private event held in Washington under the patronage of HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Petroleum Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi and US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry. (QNA)
