Ministry of Energy to abolish gasohol 91

BANGKOK, Dec 25 (TNA) -- The Ministry of Energy is moving ahead with its plans to drop gasohol 91 from pumps and expects competition in the fuel business to be aggressive next year due to sustained economic growth. Witoon Kulchroenwirat , Director General of the Department of Energy Business which is under the Ministry of Energy, announced that the ministry plans to promote dropping gasohol 91 from petrol station by employing marketing incentives. Some brands, such as Shell and Susco, have indicated that they were interested in selling gasohol 95 exclusively and this will greatly help the ministry to realise it's plans to reduce number of fuels at pumps. If it becomes possible for fuel retailers to sell gasohol 95 at the same price as gasohol 91, significant savings will be made in marketing as well as transportation costs. Gasohol 95 currently sells for 26 satang (0.26 Baht) more than gasohol 91. Forecasted economic growth of 4% next year will certainly see increased competition in the local fuel sector which will make the ministry's proposition more attractive to operators. Many pumps have already begun reducing the number of fuel nozzles to reduce their overheads. Currently, most pumps sells eight types of fuels which are Benzine 95, Gasohol 95, Gasohol 91, E20, E85, Premium Benzine, Diesel and Diesel Premium. (TNA)
