Ministry of Transport pushes Mae Sot Airport expansion
TAK, Dec 25 (TNA) -- The Minister for Transport travelled onsite to check on progress on the Mae Sot International Airport Expansion Project and reports that 80% of the work has been completed.
Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, Minister of Transport visited Mae Sot International Airport in Tak province to oversee the progress being made on the construction of a new passenger terminal and runway expansions which is being done to facilitate the Tak Special Economic Zone project.
Mr Akhom said that work has progressed by 80 per cent and once completed, 600 foreign and domestic passengers can be accommodated every hour and larger commercial jets such as Boeing 737s and Airbuses can be received with ease. Currently, Mae Sot Airport can only handle 200 passengers an hour.
After the visit, Mr Akhom ordered that more jet bridges to be installed for greater convenience for passengers especially during the rainy season.
Work on The new 12,000 square meter passenger terminal began in April of this year and is projected to cost 447 million baht. A further 368 million baht has been budgeted for runway expansions. (TNA)
