Moscow Economic Conference held in Bangkok

BANGKOK, Dec 15 (TNA) – The Russian Asian Business Union suggested Thailand and Russia support each other’s strong points and seek investment cooperation for mutual benefit during the Moscow Economic Conference in Bangkok yesterday.
The event was hosted by the Russian Asian Business Union and the Department for External Economic and International Relations of the City of Moscow. It covered issues of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two cities and the presentation of Moscow as a City of Investment Opportunities.
During the event, leading business and government representatives from Moscow and Bangkok met to exchange knowledge and information about investment cooperation and successful businesses in Moscow.
Deputy Governor of Bangkok, Wanvilai Promlakano attended the meeting as well as Sergey Cheryomin, head of the Department for Foreign Economic and International Relations of Moscow, and Kirill Barsky, Russian ambassador to Thailand.
Mr Sergey said Moscow is Russia’s important economic town. His department mapped out policies to set a target for Moscow to be the international financial hub.
In the first half of this year, the trade value between Moscow and other countries increased 32 per cent. Each year, the city records about 20 million tourist arrivals.
Apart from economic development, it also focuses on human resource, innovation and technology, he said.
Investors viewed that the two countries have strong points, which can benefit mutual investment. Thailand is a leading food exporters and producers of farm products while Russian has expertise in engineering.
Both countries can exchange their knowledge but it should be done under clear policies, said investors.
In tourism sector, the number of Russian tourist arrivals in Thailand rose 2.3 per cent this year.
Meanwhile, Deputy Bangkok governor said this year marks 120 years of diplomatic relation between Thailand and Russia.
On Wednesday (Dec 13), she signed an agreement on cooperation from 2018 to 2020with head of Moscow's External Economic and International Relations Department. The cooperation covers various fields including environment, transportation, science, technology, education, town planning, culture and tourism. (TNA)
