MTC To Seek Latest Timber Technology From China

KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) will mount a mission to China next month to tap the latest technology and product trends in the woodworking industry. Chief Executive Officer Dr Abdul Rahim Nik said the technology acquisition, resource and business mission, scheduled from May 29 to June 4, was also aimed to diversify the supply base for raw materials. "This mission is part of MTC's efforts to promote technological advancement in the Malaysian timber industry towards more efficiency in wood processing and better quality products," he said in statement Wednesday. Abdul Rahim said in order for Malaysian manufacturers to remain viable and participate in international trade, they must intensify efforts to increase productivity by optimising raw material usage and employ labour-saving production systems. "In this way, the timber industry will be able to meet the challenges in today’s changing world trade environment. "It would be able to continue to develop and maintain its position as a viable sector that is making a sustainable contribution to the economic growth of the country," he said. Besides visiting timber products processors and manufacturers, delegation members would also attend the 16th International Exhibition on Woodworking Machinery and Furniture Manufacturing Equipment and the International Exhibition on Woodworking Machinery Supplies and Accessories 2016. Both fairs, would be held at the China International Exhibition Centre in Beijing, from June 1 to 4. "The mission is also expected to provide opportunities for trade and possible joint-ventures with Chinese's companies," he added. --BERNAMA
