NCCIM To Tap Non-Traditional Markets With Matrade

PETALING JAYA (Selangor, Malaysia), Dec 6 (Bernama) -- The National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCIM) will work closely with Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) to tap the non-traditional markets as well as strengthening its network in its existing areas. NCCIM Secretary-General, Syed Hussein Al Habshee, said NCCIM encouraged its members to export as local products became attractive due to lower ringgit. "We can look to the non-traditional markets such as Africa. We need to look into this at how best we can enter this market," he told reporters in Kota Damansara here after the announcement of the organisation's plan to hold a gathering, Moment Of Truth on Jan 21, 2017. Syed Hussein said NCCIM would also be looking to engage regional trade and Islamic chambers of commerce to strengthen its network. "The International Islamic Chamber of Commerce, under the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation umbrella, is a force to reckon with for NCCIM to engage with them," he added. Meanwhile, NCCIM's newly-elected President, Ter Leong Yap, said the organisation encouraged its members to invest outside Malaysia to strengthen their business. Ter said the companies should also tap China's market due to its sizeable economy as well as the Assciation of South-East Asian Nations' market. "They should capitalise on the network that we have, bring them more markets so that the members have more opportunities to expand their businesses," he said. The Moment of Truth is organised to foster national unity and uphold the Rukun Negara (National Principles). The event, which will be held in Taman Tasik Perdana, is expected to attract 2,000 to 3,000 attendees, among them universities students and representatives from the private sector and government agencies.
