New cement Factory To Operate In Lebak

Rangkasbitung, Banten, Dec 9 (Antara) - PT Cemindo Gemilang is building a new cement factory with a production capacity of 3.2 million tons a year in the regency of Lebak, Banten. The factory is expected to be operational in 2016, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of PT Cemindo Gemilang Aos Gumilar said here on Tuesday . With the operation of the project to cost around Rp6 trillion, the country would be self sufficient in cement supply , Gumilar said. He said the country still needs to import 1.5 million tosn nof cement a year at present. He said the factory, which produce cement with the brand of Merah Putih, occupies a land plot of 500 hectares in the sub-district of Bayah, regency of Lebak, Banten. Currently construction of the project is in progress and it should be operational in 2016. The factory will have a production capacity of 10,000 tons of clinker per day with cement production capacity of 3.2 million tons a year. "We are confident Merah Putih cement factory would contribute to the district economic development," he said. He said the production would be supplied to areas all over the country -- Sumatra, Kalimantan, Papua, Sulawesi, Maluku and Java. In 1992, Merah Putil cement factory was built in Vietnam with a production capacity of 4.5 million tons a year. The product is known to have high quality and environmentally friendly. he prices would range from Rp40,000 to Rp60,000 per sack to be competitive facing other brands. "All production would be disposed of on the domestic market as the supply is still in deficit," Gumilar said. He said the factory would contributed to economic development in Lebak and provide new jobs mainly for local people. The factory would need thousands of workers , he added. Currently , there are 1,200 people working at the project, he said.
