New track and stations for Moscow Metro: Russia, China sign 'biggest deal in Europe'

BEIJING, May 19 (Itar-Tass) - Russia and China will work together on building 150 kilometres of Metro underground rail track and more than 70 stations in a construction project hailed as the biggest in Europe. The deal was signed for Russia by Moscow deputy mayor responsible for urban development and construction Marat Khusnullin, formalising partnership between Moscow engineers Mosinzhproekt alongside Beijing's China Railway Construction Corporation and China International Fund Limited. "This programme is one of the biggest in the world," Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin told those gathered to sign the accord. "It is certainly not as big as the Beijing and the Shanghai programmes, but nevertheless it is the biggest in Europe, providing construction of 150 kilometres of new metro lines and more than 70 metro stations,” he said. Recent negotiations in Moscow had agreed on advancing investment plans for the capital's underground transport, the mayor added. “One of the directions for Moscow metro development covers the territory of New Moscow, which is half as much again as the existing territory of Moscow and needs accelerated development of its transport infrastructure - roads, the underground and public transport,” Sobyanin said. “We have agreed to design a project to invest together with our Chinese counterparts in this line, to construct it within the shortest possible time and to build transport interchange hubs. “This will be the key project for attracting private investments from China in order to balance Moscow’s investment package and speed up development of investment and infrastructure projects,” the mayor said.
