Over 880,000-ton produce of four Thai fruits expected in 2019

BANGKOK, April 1 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives reports that there should be over 880,000-ton produce of four Thai fruits from the country's eastern orchards in 2019, including durian, mangosteen, rambutan and southern langsat, thanks to the favorite weather condition in late 2018. Chantanon Wannakejohn, Deputy Secretary-General of the ministry's Office of the Agricultural Economics, told journalists on Monday that the total produce of the four Thai fruits from the eastern Chanthaburi, Rayong and Trat Provinces should reach 886,535 tons totally this year, especially during April-May, a surge of about 32.91 per cent from last year. Chantanon said that most produce should be mangosteen, expected to soar by 144.11 per cent this year, followed by the southern langsat, durian and rambutan, expected to increase by 24.35 per cent, 22.69 per cent and 10.31 per cent respectively. Meanwhile, the provincial office of the agricultural economics in Chon Buri cautioned the produce of the four eastern Thai fruits this year could either increase or drop from the targeted figures if the weather varied.
