Pakistani textile businessmen have eye on Turkey
ISLAMABAD (A.A) - The Pakistani Federal Advisor on Textile, Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, wanted tariff imposed on textile and ready made clothing products to be removed.
Baig told a news conference in Karachi that he sent a letter to Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani for removal of tariffs, adding he expected his demand to be debated during Friday's federal cabinet meeting. Baig said he expected a positive decision.
Baig said he also wrote letters to Turkish executives including the president and the prime minister to exempt trade of textile and ready made clothing products from customs duties.
Baig said tariffs in textile sector should be removed in order to achieve 2 billion USD trade volume between Turkey and Pakistan set as target for 2012 by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
