Passenger vans aged over 10-year-old removed from streets

BANGKOK, Oct 1 (TNA) – The Department of Land Transport (DLT) on Monday started banning the operation of passenger vans, older than 10 years. Any operators who run passenger vans, the registration of which expires, would be fined 20,000-200,000 baht and face a jail term of 2-5 years. It is expected that more than 1,500 vans are decommissioned after the DLT decided not to extend their licences. Some 260 vans operating 11 routes from Victory Monument are decommissioned today as well as 191 vans in seven routes from Min Buri. The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) has provided additional 65 air-conditioned buses in six routes to replace decommissioned vans, particularly during rush hours. (TNA)
