Pineapple fair at Or Tor Kor market
BANGKOK, May 4 (TNA) – The Marketing Organization for Farmers (MOF) organizes the pineapple fair at its Or Tor Kor market until next Thursday to promote consumption of pineapples and tackle the fruit’s oversupply.
Deputy Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Luck Wajananawat presided over the opening of the fair yesterday.
Pineapple growers, agriculture institutes, and community enterprises offer all varieties of pineapples such as Phu Lae, Pattavia, Huai Mun at around 30-70 baht each. Consumers are invited to buy good quality directly from growers to solve the problem of oversupply in the pineapple market.
In May and June, about 2.2 million tonnes of pineapples will be harvested. Two million tonnes will be sold to fruit processing factories and the rest of 200,000 fresh pineapples will enter into the market, leading the glut of the fruit.
To deal with this problem, the deputy agriculture and cooperatives minister said that the pineapple fair will be also held in Lampang and Uttaradit.
Pineapples will be sent front production areas in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phetchaburi and Rayong to the goods distribution centers across the country through mechanism of cooperatives. Pineapples will also be used in animal feeding production for beef cattle and dairy.
Urging people to eat pineapples, he also said pineapple consumption is good for digestive system and liver health, according to many researches. - (TNA)
