Qatar Chamber Hosts Meeting for Indian Trade Mission
Doha, October 11 (QNA) - Qatar Chamber hosted a delegation from the Indian State of Gujarat, who introduced Qatari businessmen to investment opportunities available in the state.
The Qatari businessmen and the Indian delegation, headed by Principal Secretary, Government of the State of Gujarat, Dr Rajiv Kumar Gupta discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in infrastructure, construction, oil and gas, agriculture, tourism and other sectors. They also explored the potential investment opportunities in both countries.
Speaking during the meeting, QC Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Tawar said Qatar and India have a long history of friendly relations marked by commercial ties, adding that the large Indian community in Qatar acts as a catalyst for enhanced ties across the spectrum of bilateral relations.
"There is a growing cooperation in the hydrocarbon and other sectors. More recently, a number of steps have been taken to further strengthen and expand bilateral relations. These include exchanges of high level visits, cooperation in multilateral institutions and political consultations," QC Vice-Chairman said.
The bilateral trade had touched nearly US$10.3 billion in 2015. India is the third largest export destination for Qatar (behind Japan and South Korea) while import from India to Qatar stand at 10th on the list, he added.
Dr Rajiv Kumar Gupta called on Qataris businessmen to visit Gujarat to explore investment opportunities and participate in the 'global investment summit' which will be held from 10 to 13 January 2017, adding that the central focus of the summit is sustainable economic and social development.
Gujarat, he said, has developed a plan over the past 15 years to become an important commercial and industrial center in India, pointing out that it has also facilitated investment procedures through the launch of a single window service. (QNA)
