QC Praises Qatar's Efforts in Enhancing Workers' Rights

Doha, May 01 (QNA) - Qatar Chamber (QC) commended the State's efforts to enhance workers' rights and its keenness to apply the best international standards to ensure the safety and security of expatriate workers in the light of the economic renaissance witnessed by the State. As part of Qatar's celebrity to mark the International Workers' Day, Qatar Chamber hold on Wednesday a ceremony to honor its workers. Director-General Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi noted that local laws and legislative helped in enhancing a sound and attractive work environment including the Law regulating the entry and exit of expatriates and their residence, wages Protection System and the establishment of committees to resolve labor disputes and others. He affirmed that these procedures have contributed to strengthen Qatar's position at the forefront of countries that apply global systems of workers' rights. He stressed the Chamber's role in raising the awareness on workers' rights among companies of the private sector through hosting seminars and forums, affirming their commitment to applying occupational safety and health requirements within the workplace and in workers' accommodations as well as requirements of the Qatar Labor Law. Al Sharqi said that Qatar has a great international reputation regarding its achievement in the field of protecting workers' rights and adopting the best mechanisms that ensure an appropriate work environment.
