RasGas Concludes 11th Summer Internship Programme
Doha, September 06 (QNA) - RasGas has concluded its 11th Summer Internship Programme which provides a practical environment in which Qatari undergraduates students can learn about the business needs of the oil and gas industry.
During their internship, each intern is given an individual project to work on under the guidance of a mentor. They are then eligible to compete in the annual Summer Internship Star Competition, which was held for the ninth consecutive time this year at the end of the internship programme. Competing interns present their projects to a panel of judges, who are drawn from various sectors of Qatar's economy. The winner is selected based on the presentation's delivery and content.
"I am pleased to see yet another group of such promising individuals participate in this programme," said RasGas Chief Executive Officer Hamad Mubarak Al Muhannadi.
"At RasGas, we have a clear and strategic vision for the future. It is underpinned by a drive for excellence in all areas of our business and an innovative approach to education and continuous development," he said.
"We recognise that practical workplace skills are important in order for the graduates to excel in a global society, and obtain the highest academic knowledge. Our Summer Internship Programme is designed to allow interns to apply theoretical and academic concepts in the work environment," said Al Muhannadi.
RasGas has announced the winner of the annual RasGas Summer Internship Star Competition 2016. Shaikha Saad Al Qahtani, an electrical and computer engineering student at Texas A&M University-Qatar, won first prize for developing a programme to extract and classify security events based on criticality within RasGas Distributed Control System.
Noora Mubarak Al Khalfan, an industrial and systems engineering student at Qatar University, won the second prize. Her project involved achieving efficiency by empowering employees to perform pre-specified maintenance tasks.
Mohammad Al Mansouri, an electrical and computer engineering student at Texas A&M University at Qatar earned third place for his work on a cost optimisation transformer copper corrosion project.
For her part, winner Al Qahtani said that the RasGas Summer Internship Programme was a very valuable experience for her.
Working on the Industrial Control System Security Event Surveillance has given her a clear idea of what her future as an engineer might be like, she added. (QNA)
