Ringgit Ends Lower Against US Dollar

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar Friday in line with most Asian currencies as the greenback strengthened after Thursday's decline, dealers said. At 6 pm, the ringgit was quoted at 4.0675/0725 against the greenback from 4.0420/0500 on Thursday. A dealer said the US dollar extended gains on expectation of a US interest rate increase by the US Federal Reserve in its next policy meeting on Sept 20-21. He said lower oil prices also pressured the ringgit. The benchmark Brent Crude oil eased 1.2 per cent to US$49.39 per barrel. The ringgit, meanwhile, traded lower against a basket of major currencies. It fell against the Singapore dollar to 3.0030/0069 from 3.0012/0089 on Thursday and eased against the yen to 3.9792/9852 from 3.9768/9866. The local note slid against the British pound to 5.4118/4205 from 5.3985/3100 and dipped against the euro to 4.5845/5905 from 4.5574/5668. -- BERNAMA
