Siam Commercial Bank confirms security, safety in QR code payment system

BANGKOK, Jan 9 (TNA) – The Siam Commercial Bank confirms high security in the bank’s Quick Response (QR) code payment system and will extend the service to universities and hospitals soon. Thana Thienachariya, Senior Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer at the Siam Commercial Bank Public Company Limited said the QR code payment system is safe as customers will receive One-Time Password (OTP) on their mobile for confirmation of the payment. No fault has been found since the system was introduced late last year. About 200,000 bank customers have used the system and it is expected that the number of users will increase to one million within this year. The QR code payment service will be expanded to restaurants, universities, hospitals, transportation service providers. Ms Apiphan Charoenanusorn Senior Executive Vice President, Head of Operations, said the bank cooperated with Shell Thailand to adopt the QR payment at its petrol station opposite the bank’s headquarters. Besides paying for gasoline, customers can use QR code to pay for non-oil products at the convenience store and a café there as well. The QR code payment service will be available at other Shell petrol stations across the country by mid-2018. (TNA)
