SilTerra, IGaN To Revolutionise Green Semiconductor Technology

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysian semiconductor wafer foundry SilTerra Malaysia Sdn Bhd has tied up with Singapore-based IGSS GaN Pte Ltd (IGaN) for an exclusive technology transfer partnership to significantly reduce production costs with high-volume manufacturing capabilities. IGaN is a global leading technology developer of gallium nitride-on-silicon (GaN-on-Si) technologies. In a joint statement Monday, the companies said the technology accelerator would spur the conversion of pure silicon and compound-based technologies into GaN-on-Si, shown to favourably impact the bottom line and long-term business competitiveness of power and radio frequency semiconductor companies. "In adopting this solution, power semiconductor players can benefit from GaN-on-Si's potential as a green-enabling technology, delivering positive global environmental impact by minimising power conversion losses," they said. GaN devices -- used for high power density, wireless power transfer applications -- are an innovative technology designed for wireless charging applications far beyond low power applications such as cell phones and laptops. IGaN and SilTerra said the partnership would see mass production of the powerful new technology in early 2019, and grow employment opportunities in manufacturing process integration and equipment engineering. -- BERNAMA
