SRT ready for Songkran

BANGKOK, April 2 (TNA) -- The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) will increase passenger carriages plus special 29 trains per day between April 8 – 12 and between April 16 – 18 on high expectations that train passengers would rise sharply as people leave Bangkok and return home to visit their relatives and friends during Songkran festival, Thailand’s traditional New Year, said SRT governor Wuthichart Kalayanamitr. Passengers can also travel free of charge on the special trains during the Songkran festival which falls between April 13 – 15, said Mr Wuthichart. He said the planned increase could accommodate up to 107,000 passengers daily. Presently, the SRT operates 244 trains nationwide daily. (END)
