Target set for Thailand’s exports to increase 5% in 2016
BANGKOK, Dec 6 (TNA) -- Thailand’s Commerce Ministry is confident that seven strategic plans adopted at a meeting could boost the country’s export by five per cent in 2016, said Malee Choklumlerd, director-general of the Ministry’s Department of International Trade Promotion.
Ms Malee said the International Trade Development Committee held a meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha, late last week and set the country’s export target to increase by five per cent next year based on assumption that global economy recovered which enable economy of Thailand’s key trading partners improved.
It is also hoped that Thai exporters would put effort on penetrating overseas markets in 2016, she said.
The seven strategic plans are widening trade and economic cooperation by Thailand, launching an export offensive through measuring market demand for the production, promoting cross-border trade, supporting Thai business entrepreneurs to invest in oversea, improving servicing businesses, promoting small and medium-sized enterprises players to use innovative technology, and to add value in export of industrial products.
Ms Malee said participants at the meeting also discussed problems and solutions on jewellery and ornamental products, health service, and electronics and vehicles industries.
Participants believed that these industries could generate a higher export revenue for Thailand if their problems are solved, she added. (TNA)
