Taxi OK app to be launched on Jan 25

BANGKOK, Jan 5 (TNA) -- The Land Transport Department plans to launch the Taxi OK mobile phone application on Jan 25 and about 10,000 taxis will use the software within this month. Sanit Promwong, director-general of the department, said the application would be officially launched on Jan 25 and about 2,500 taxis were using it. “From Jan 25 on, about 10,000 taxis will be involved and passengers will be charged 20 baht for using the application,” Mr Sanit said. He said 18 taxi cooperatives and most taxi drivers are interested in joining Taxi OK. They are operating 20,000-30,000 taxis. Included are about 1,000 new taxis that are required to use Taxi OK application anyway. The taxis that will use Taxi OK application must be equipped with tracking devices, snap shot cameras, and emergency buttons for passengers. The installation is underway. (TNA)
