Thai PM meets Jack Ma
BANGKOK, April 20 (TNA) -- Thailand welcomes Alibaba’s presence in the country not only for its massive investment project but also for potential human resource and economic structure developments, Thai premier says after a meeting with Alibaba Group co-founder and executive chairman Jack Ma.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Thursday met Ma at Government House on Thursday, which the government has said focusing on investment and development projects in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).
Gen Prayut said after the talks that Alibaba could facilitate Thailand’s goals at reforming and strengthening its economic infrastructure with digital technology.
Alibaba Group signs four memorandum of understanding (MoUs) on digital technology, human resource development and tourism.
Alibaba Group also plans to announce its collaborative schemes and investments in Thailand during Jack Ma’s visit.
Gen Prayut said he told the chairman of the giant Chinese e-commerce operator that his government’s ultimate goal was to take care of low-income people.
Thailand has planned for collaborative projects with Alibaba in order to drive forward Thailand\'s digital industry and digital technology in line with the government’s Thailand 4.0 innovation policy.
Alibaba will take part in a Smart Digital Hub in the EEC, according to Thai officials.
It will collaborate with the Tourism Authority of Thailand in marketing activities on online platforms and utilizing tourism Big Data to promote Thailand's tourism industry. (TNA)
