Thai SMEs urged to invest in Vietnam

BANGKOK, September 18 (TNA) – Thai small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are urged to invest in Vietnam because the neighboring country is an emerging market with potential growth. In a seminar on Thai-Vietnamese relations, trade and investment held in Bangkok Tuesday morning, East Asian Affairs Department Director-General Passakorn Siriyaphan said the Thai government is encouraging Thai operators, especially SMEs, to invest more in Vietnam because it is an emerging market with potential growth and high quality but cheap labour. Passakorn said Thailand is currently the 10th biggest investor in Vietnam, having sunk 5.8 billion U.S. dollars into 224 projects in the neighboring country. Most of the investments are focused on sectors such as property development, tourism, hotels and hospitality, infrastructure development, agro-industries and chemical products. (TNA)
