Thailand to carry on serious actions against human trafficking issues
BANGKOK, June 29 (TNA) - The Thai government vows to carry on serious actions against human trafficking issues, after the United States has maintained the country at the Tier 2 Watch List in its Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report 2017.
Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Busadee Santipitak told journalists of the Thai government's stance on June 28, noting that Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has ordered the inclusion of solutions to human trafficking issues on the national agenda.
The spokeswoman said all Thai agencies concerned will, thus, continue to seek cooperation from all relevant parties in
implementing serious actions against human trafficking in all dimensions over the next one year.
The spokeswoman acknowledged that human trafficking issues indicated in Washington's TIP Report 2017 for Thailand need to take some times for their concrete solutions.
The spokeswoman insisted that the US State Department's recent decision to maintain Thailand at the Tier 2.5 level for the second consecutive years not affect the country's exports as TIP annual reports are the United States' domestic policy under the Congress scrutiny against specific trading nations.
According to the spokeswoman, Washington reviews and issues TIP reports based on the updated yearly situation and Thailand's Tier 2 level should not be related to China's Tier 3 level in TIP Report 2017. (TNA)
