Thailand to export more fruits to East Asia, ASEAN
BANGKOK, April 10 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Commerce, will organize activities to promote more exports of Thai fruits to potential markets in East Asia and in the ASEAN Community (AC).
Banjongjitt Angsusingh, Director General of the ministry's Department of International Trade Promotion, told journalists on Wednesday that she has assigned chiefs of Thailand's international trade promotion offices in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at a recent video conference to quickly organize the activities to promote more exports of Thai fruits and fruit products to the potential foreign markets.
Banjongjitt stated that Thailand's international trade promotion offices will, thus, work together with importers and retail stores in the potential economies to organize the activities from late this month to August to boost exports of Thai fresh, canned and processed fruits to the markets, including fresh durian, mangosteen, mango and coconut, as well as canned pineapple, longan and rambutan and other processed forms of the Thai fruits.
For the ASEAN market, the senior Thai official said, apart from organizing activities in Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and Cambodia, her department will invite a delegation of Singapore fruit and vegetable importers to visit Thailand during April 21-24 for a meeting and business matching sessions with their Thai counterparts, aimed to further boost exports of Thai fruits and vegetables to the island state.
