SINGAPORE, October 29 (TNA) - Thailand has won most prizes at the ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA)for the 9th consecutive year, bringing back home 21 prizes at the latest AEA 2018, held in Singapore.
Speaking to journalists on Monday while attending the 36th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meetings (AMEM) in Singapore, Thai Energy Minister Siri Jirapongphan announced that the Thai Kingdom has won 21 out of a total of 63 prizes at the ASEAN Energy Awards 2018, being held in the island state during October 29-30.
"There are 25 Thai energy projects contesting at the ASEAN Energy Awards 2018 and 21 of them have got the prizes, making Thailand become the country that has won most of the prizes at the ASEAN Energy Awards for the 9th consecutive years so far and showing the strong determination of both the Thai public and private sectors in working together to keep developing the alternative energy and conserving energy in the country for the sake of national energy security", acknowledged the Thai energy minister.
The minister stated that Thailand has participated in the ASEAN Energy Awards since the year 2000 and has won 188 prizes so far, the most when compared with other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), followed by 97 prizes won by Indonesia and 86 prizes won by Singapore.
The minister said there are two main categories at the ASEAN Energy Awards 2018, one is the energy conservation and other is the alternative energy, the latter of which has divided into four categorial prizes of the outstanding energy management, the outstanding energy conservation building, the outstanding green building and the outstanding renewable energy project.
According to the minister, the Thai government, through his ministry, has kept promoting the development and the consumption of alternative energy, as well as the energy conservation, based on the 20-year national energy development and conservation plan 2015-2036, aimed to promote research and development (R&D) projects and investment in alternative energy and energy conservation projects for the sake of national energy security and reduced energy imports.
The minister stressed that his ministry will uphold the major objectives when Thailand hosts the 37th AMEM during the country's alternate chairmanship of ASEAN next year, as energy is a key factor in driving ahead and sustaining the ASEAN economic growth in the long run.
A prize presentation ceremony of the ASEAN Energy Awards 2018 was, meanwhile, set to be organized at the island state on Monday evening. (TNA)
