Thailand's cyberency to be set up to cope with Internet threats
BANGKOK, January 11 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, plans to set up its cyberency to cope with growing Internet threats.
Announcing the plan at a recent business seminar in Bangkok,Thai Minister of Digital Economy and Society Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj reasoned that Internet threats, conducted
by hackers and other scam gangs, have been quickly spreading in global areas, including Thailand.
Dr. Pichet said that his ministry will, thus, set up the government-supported cyberency to train and produce "good hackers" and cyber experts to protect and further develop the overall Internet systems in Thailand, especially those run by the public sector.
Dr. Pichet explained that the jurisdiction of the newly-planned Thai cyberency will cover the Internet systems of financial institutes and capital markets, as well as agencies in the local energy and public health sectors.
According to the minister, his ministry also plans to expand Wi-Fi systems with reasonable costs to people in all communities across Thailand by the end of this year to promote the online sale of community products and e-commerce systems, as well as enable the public to be widely and safely accessible to online knowledge sources.
