Thailand's modeled bio-power plant licensed

BANGKOK, February 25 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Industry's Office of Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has given the green light to Mitr Phol Bio-Power Co.,Ltd. to run a modeled bio-power plant in Amnat Charoen Province in the Thai Northeast. ERC Secretary-General and Spokesperson Naruepat Amornkosit announced on Monday that the ERC Board has resolved to issue the license to the private company for its operation of the modeled bio-power plant in Amnat Charoen. "Mitr Phol Bio-Power (Amnat Charoen) has been approved a license to produce the bio-power from biomass, including sugarcane leaves and trashes, as well as wood scraps in the northeastern province's Muang District once its construction of the new plant is completed", the ERC chief told journalists. The ERC chief said that the newly-licensed bio-power plant will have its production capacity of 32,500 kilovolt ampere (kVA) or 26,000 megawatts (MW). According to the ERC chief, the modeled bio-power plant is required to strictly follow not only ERC regulations, but also additional requirements of local stakeholders on preventing and protecting the environment and local communities with a decisive penalty of an immediate shutdown of the plant to be enforced once it is found breaching the ERC regulations and the additional requirements.
