TNSC says government could achieve export growth target of 5% in 2016

BANGKOK, Dec 7 (TNA) -- The Thai National Shippers’ Council (TNSC) is confident that the government could achieve the country’s export growth of 5 per cent in 2016 from contraction this year, said TNSC chairman Nopporn Thepsitthar. Global economy has started to recover while there are positive signs that the US Federal Reserve would increase its rates on the back of improving US economy, said Mr Nopporn. Economy in Europe is gradually recovering, he said, adding that the world economy should grow 3.6 per cent next year which would help Thailand’s exports to increase while the Thai government is also supporting the country’s exports through its international trade strategy. However, negative factors persist, said Mr Nopporn. They included world economy grows less than projections made by the International Monetary Fund due to continued weak European economy along with terrorist attacks in Paris in November which have affected both tourism and economy. Monetary volatilities are seen in both China and Japan’s economy, Mr Nopporn said. But if economy of the US improves, it could help push global economy eventually. (TNA)
