Trade representative to boost Thailand's preparedness for AEC

BANGKOK, April 20 (TNA) - Thailand’s trade representative Olarn Chaiprawat has vowed to work to enhance the country's preparedness for the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015. Olarn, who is a former Thai deputy prime minister and an incumbent advisor to Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, announced the determination during his keynote speech on Thailand’s policy on the formation of the single economic community among member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at Rangsit University in the outskirts of Bangkok on Thursday. Olarn urged local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to particularly make proper and timely adjustments for the changing business environment in the region under the AEC context. The Thai trade representative also suggested that Thailand reduce or abandon products the country has low comparative advantage and focus more on those it has high comparative advantage, instead.
