Turkey makes highest expense on housing and rent in 2010
ANKARA (A.A) – August 11, 2011 - The spending on housing and rent has the highest share in total consumption expenditures with a rate of 27.1 percent in 2010.
The share of expenditures on food and non-alcoholic beverages is 21.9 percent; while it was 2.1 percent on health, and 2 percent on educational services, according to the results of 2010 Household Budget Survey of TurkStat.
While the monthly average consumption expenditure per household for Turkey is estimated as 1,688 Turkish lira (TL) in 2009, it is estimated as 1,843 TL in 2010. This value is also calculated as 2,023 TL for urban areas and 1,420 TL for rural areas in 2010. (one USD equals 1.769 TL)
When comparing the results of 2009 and 2010 Household Budget Surveys, it is seen that the share of food & non-alcoholic beverage expenditures decreased from 23 percent to 21.9 percent. The share of expenditures on housing and rent decreased from 28.2 percent to 27.1 percent and share of communication expenditures also decreased from 4.2 percent to 4.1 percent and the share of expenditures on various goods and services decreased from 4.1 percent to 3.7 percent.
On the other hand, the share of alcoholic beverages & cigarette expenditures increased to 4.5 percent from 4.1 percent and the share of transportation increased to 15.1 percent from 13.6 percent and the share of education expenditures also increased to 2 percent from 1.9 percent and hotels & restaurants increased its share to 5.4 percent from 5.2 percent.
The only expenditure group whose share did not change is clothing.
