Turkey's head of Is Bank says global crisis opportunity for Turkish economy

ISTANBUL (A.A) - 22.04.2011 - Turkey's Is Bankasi Director General Adnan Bali has said that global economic crisis was a time-out and opportunity for Turkish economy and Turkish companies.
Speaking to AA correspondent, Bali said, "we were not much affected by global economic crisis. But it is not enough. We caught a very important possibility. We should make good use of opportunities."
Regarding Bank Sofia, Bali said that they completed all permissions required for transfer of shares of Bank Sofia in Russia and it would be concluded soon. 
Last year, Is Bankasi signed an agreement in Moscow and purchased 100 percent of Closed Joint Stock Company Bank Sofia.
Bali said Is Bankasi had been following opportunities in other countries as well in the region including the Middle East.
Regarding Turkish banking sector, Bali said that the principles in force in modern economies of the world should also be implemented in Turkey.
Is Bankasi posted 2.07 billion USD (3.2 billion Turkish liras-TL) of net profit in 2010. The bank's consolidated assets were worth 151 billion TL (98.05 billion USD).
Founded in 1924, Is Bankasi began to operate with two branches and 37 staff. As of March 2010, Is Bankasi has 1,084 domestic and 15 international branches. With total assets have reached 113.2 billion TL as of year-end 2009, the bank posted a net profit of 2.4 billion TL in the first nine months of 2010.
