Warning on counterfeit money
BANGKOK, March 3 (TNA) -- The public is warned on the current spreading use of fake banknotes after they were found in the northeastern province of Kalasin.
The warning is issued by Bank of Thailand (BoT) Assistant Governor for Banknote Management Group Woraporn Tangsaghasaksri.
Mr Woraporn said fake money is usually used at markets- night and morning markets, shops along footpath, petrol stations and by taxi drivers.
Although the use of counterfeit money is found rather low in Thailand, people have to be extremely cautious when accepting cash, he said.
The paper of genuine banknotes is thicker than those fake ones while their designs can be easily felt by hands, said Mr Woraporn, adding that the colours of high denominations such as 500 and 1,000 banknotes are changed automatically when the notes are shown behind the light. (TNA)
