WCES 2017 In Hong Kong To Discuss Digital Economy, Logistics Sector -- Asli

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- The emergence of the digital economy and logistics industry will be one of the key topics to be discussed at the 9th World Chinese Economic Summit 2017 (WCES 2017) in Hong Kong. Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (ASLI) Chief Executive Officer, Michael Yeoh, said the two-day summit, from Nov 13, 2017, would gather some 100 speakers from 28 countries to share their insights on the growing digital economy and logistics industry. "We have digital entrepreneurs from Malaysia who will share their insights on the digital economy. There will also be a session on ‘smart cities’ which is expected to be of interest among the property developers,” he told a media briefing on the WCES 2017 here Wednesday. WCES ​​​ is a premier international event which started as the World Chinese Economic Forum nine years ago. It was created by ASLI to enhance connectivity and business linkages between China and South-East Asia, and China and Europe in line with the Chinese leadership’s Belt and Road initiatives. Meanwhile, Transport Minister, Liow Tiong Lai, has expressed interest to participate in a number of WCES 2017 sessions in relation to the logistics industry in move to enhance Malaysia’s logistics industry as one of the regional logistics hubs. "We (the ministry) are working together with Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ). We know that the digital economy is here to stay and we have to manage and complement the traditional business with the digital economy. "Malaysia will be the first DFTZ outside China. We will be there (WCES 2017) to promote the DFTZ and also to promote Malaysia logistics sector. We are fortunate because we work closely with China on port alliance, covering nine ports in Malaysia and 12 ports in China,” he said. The WCES also promotes global and regional dialogues on the emergence and role of China as the world’s second largest economy. It brings together the global Chinese diaspora and promotes entrepreneurship and innovation through business networking and the sharing of knowledge and best practices. Over the past nine years, WCES has been held in Malaysia, China, Australia and UK.
