WEF workshop on boosting Thailand’s competiveness held

BANGKOK, Nov 18 (TNA) -- A workshop, aimed at boosting Thailand’s competitiveness to catch up with modern technology, will be organised by the World Economic Forum (WEF) and two Thai government agencies in Bangkok next Monday, said Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn. The workshop entitled "Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth: Navigating towards Thailand 4.0" will be jointly sponsored by the Commerce Ministry and the National Economic and Social Development Board and it will also enable the WEF and the Thai government o work closer, said Ms Apiradi. She said representatives of technological start-ups, leading small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and foreign chambers of commerce in Thailand will be invited to participate for concrete brainstorming to be adopted for national development through integrated policies and measures of both the public and private sectors in the future. The significant issue for concerned Thai officials to consider is how to make the country embark on Thailand 4.0 economic policy and simultaneously understanding better the new methodology, expected to be implemented in 2018, by the WEF. Ms Apiradi noted that the cooperation between the WEF, NESDB and her ministry, followed the WEF's latest competitiveness ranking in 2017 among 137 member economies worldwide, in which Thailand now ranked 32nd place from the 34th place last year.
