Welfare card holders can access free subway rides, starting from today

BANGKOK, July 20 (TNA) – State welfare card holders can use their cards for MRT subway service on the first day today. Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith presided over the launch of the service for welfare card holders. He said 10,000 low-income earners have registered their welfare cards for subway service. The registration period is opened until September at all subway stations. While other city transport mode is installing to the system to accept the welfare cards, it is expected the cardholders will be able to access Airport Rail Link network in October and the boat service by the end of this year. Only welfare cardholders in Bangkok and six surrounding provinces, including Nonthaburi, Ayutthya, Phathum Thani, Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakarn and Nakhon Prathon are eligible to register their cards with hybrid 2 chips for the city mass transit service. Each person has a credit of 500 baht per month in the card for public transport. (TNA)
